In 2018, he achieved a landmark investment from Goldman Sachs when it purchased Genesis from Oaktree, making Genesis one of the first private lenders to partner with a regulated financial institution. By late 2021, Robert successfully positioned Genesis for its next growth stage through its acquisition by New Residential Investment Corp./Fortress Investment Group from Goldman Sachs. It should be noted that in both aforementioned sell-side transactions led by Robert, the initial investors achieved positive returns on their investments. 

Not only was Robert able to attract institutional capital to the private lending space, but he was also able to translate that vision into incredible growth. When Robert joined Genesis in 2013, the company had only $100 million in originations. By 2022, through Robert’s visionary leadership, that number had grown to $2.5 billion in annual originations. During his tenure from 2013 to 2022, Genesis originated over $9 billion in loan volume.  

Robert’s career and vision was also forged from his time at Anchor Loans, where he was a Partner during the great financial crisis. From 2009-mid-2012, Robert led the acquisition and repositioning of more than 1,000 assets totaling over $200 million in three years. What Robert learned during that time was the importance of data analytics and having best-in-class in-house valuation and construction capabilities, something he built at Genesis, and has now, through his partnership with Elliott, been further enhanced at AscentDS. 

Robert attended the University of North Florida and is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School, serving as a reactor operator for 5 years on the U.S.S. Enterprise. In his spare time, he competes as a semi-professional baseball player, winning multiple national titles since 2002.
